Let me take you back to 1979. The car is in the driveway and the father and son are in their garage, hard at work into the wee hours of the morning, hand crafting the finishing touches on the first of what would eventually become the most popular vertical tanning system in the world. It’s hard to believe almost 30 years have passed since the first 30 minute “hand made” Sun Capsule rolled out of that modest assembly plant.

In the early days, neither the father nor the son had any idea how this rudimentary machine would evolve over the next quarter century. Not only would it evolve, Sun Capsule would continuously push the envelope in performance and technology and along the way, with the help of some brilliant people, change the face of an industry.

Over the years, the first 30 minute Sun Capsule would go to 20 minutes and then 15. But it wasn’t until 1994, when a European lamp manufacturer, attempting to break into the U.S. market, chose Sun Capsule to pioneer a new concept in tanning lamps. A union was formed that changed the paths of both companies and the industry as well. The 12 minute, 160 watt Sun Capsule VHR was born. And nothing has been the same since.

The goal of both companies was “performance”. Take the tanning lamp to its’ limit and beyond. 12 minutes went to 10. A new 200-watt ballast was developed and we saw 9 minutes. Then came the 220-watt ballast, a longer lamp and a groundbreaking phosphor that produced a breath taking 8-minute tan.

Development never stops at Sun Capsule. This year marks the most dramatic changes ever with the introduction of the Sun Capsule 250 Max. Most notable is an all-new 2 meter lamp from Cosmedico that generates incredibly high UVA and delivers the darkest 7 minute tan imaginable from this first and only 250 watt system in existence. It promises to be the fastest, most powerful and profitable machine in the industry.

A lot has happened over the past 30 years. The son is as old as the father was then, and the father has long since retired. But one thing has never changed. To this day, they both share a common sense of pride and enthusiasm for what was, is now and what will be in the future. Sun Capsule.

A heartfelt thanks to my wife and family, my partners and to everyone, friends, co-workers and salon owners alike, who have helped maintain Sun Capsule’s success over the past 30 years.

A special thanks to my dad. It would have been very difficult without you.
